Colourful england

A fool's attempt to capture the beauty of nature with a canon 450d, a bag of Sigma lenses and too little talent.

Blog moved!

Well this was short and sweet.

I have a proper shiny new home, at dannorcott.co.uk - pop over and see me there.

Steps up to Glastonbury Tor

An old photo, this one:

This was taken in early 2007, when I wasn't yet using raw all the time, and it suffers from some blown highlights on the left there, but it was my favourite pic for a long time.

I can't resist this sort of curve... and the colours came out very nicely I think.

If you've not been to Glastonbury Tor, I recommend it, it's a beautiful place.

Isle de Cité, Paris

Ahem.  I know what you're thinking - this isn't England.  Let's just gloss over that shall we?

This was taken on a recent weekend in paris - the Fête de la Musique was on (a street festival where there are bands playing all over paris) so the streets were thronged with people. Took us two hours to fight our way back to the hotel from a restaurant near the Pompidou centre.

I got this pic by balancing my tripod on a short wall next to the seine and firing off three exposures which I later combined to make a HDR using photomatix.

Ali looking out over Porthmeor

Howdy folks.  Next up:

This shot was taken from a little chapel overlooking Porthmeor bay, in St Ives.  It's normally full of surfers but it was a quiet evening, so not many about.

This is on the verge of being a bit too HDR-ified for me - but I think the colours and texture of ali's coat have swung it.  I think it has a nice dreamy quality to it.

As with a lot of my shots, this is a 3 shot HDR post-processed in photomatix.

A Lonely Tree

Righty ho... next image:

I took this a few weeks ago when walking around Loughborough.  Normally we go somewhere more interesting, as the landscape around here is a little flat and dull... but it was a nice day and sometimes it's nice to reacquaint yourself.

Saw this tree sitting on its own on a hill, and knew it was worth a shot. Fired off a few bracketed shots, trying to find an interesting foreground, and initially thought I'd failed... but later I came back to this shot and realised it had potential.

I think the colours have worked out really well on this one, and I like the nice clean composition.

Steps down to harbour at St Ives

Hi All

I thought I'd start this blog to keep track of my favourite images and where they were taken.

First off:

This was taken just before dawn in the harbour of St Ives, Cornwall.  I was in bed and noticed some orange light coming through the curtains, and realised that I was going to have to get up and go outside because the sunrise was going to be too nice to miss.  Ten minutes later I was standing in the shallow water on some steps leading down into the harbour, setting up my tripod whilst getting odd looks from fishermen and bakery staff.

Still... worth it I hope.  This is a HDR shot, created from three bracketed images two stops apart, created using Photomatix.  Hope you like it!
